Chi è Taremi? Iraniano, classe 1992, in Europa dal 2018 prima al Rio Ave e poi al Porto. In Italia lo conoscono soprattutto i tifosi della Juve: nel 2021 si mise in mostra con un “gol record” nell’andata degli ottavi di Champions League.
Iraniano nato a Bushehr, città di 166mila abitanti nel golfo Persico, classe 1992. Tra un mese (il 18 luglio) trentun anni. Mehdi Taremi non è un profilo giovanissimo ma ha i numeri dalla sua parte. Al Porto dal 2020, con la maglia degli os Dragões ha segnato 58 reti in 99 partite. Secondo La Gazzetta dello Sport è uno dei profili sul mercato individuati dal Milan per rafforzare il reparto offensivo.

È un giocatore alto (1,86 metri) e fisico. Sui palloni volanti una preziosa risorsa. Centravanti di razza, ha un buon fiuto del gol e il vizio di regalare spettacolo. È quasi sempre nel posto giusto al momento giusto, una specie di SuperPippo Inzaghi dei tempi moderni. Contro la Juventus, nel febbraio 2021, superò Szczesny al “Do Dragao” sfruttando un errore di Bentancur (un sciagurato retropassaggio al portiere) dopo appena un minuto e tre secondi. Un gol record.
I primi passi della carriera da calciatore Taremi gli ha mossi in patria, nel campionato iraniano. Ha indossato le maglie del Shahin Busheher, dell’Iranjavan e del Persepolis. Con quest’ultima, in quattro stagioni ha conquistato per due volte il titolo di capocannoniere del campionato, nel 2016 e nel 2017.

La svolta della carriera dopo il periodo iraniano. A inizio 2018 Taremi approda in Qatar, all’Al-Gharafa, un anno e mezzo di contratto. Con il club qatariota in 42 partite sigla 21 reti e attira su di sé le attenzioni dei grandi club d’Europa. Nell’estate del 2019 firma con il Rio Ave un biennale e inizia così a mettersi in mostra nel campionato portoghese. Pronti via, tre gol al debutto contro il Desportivo das Aves; tre giorni dopo, nel match contro lo Sporting Lisbona, conquista invece altrettanti calci di rigore. Al suo primo anno in Europa è già capocannoniere del campionato: 18 centri, primo posto a pari merito con Pizzi e Carlos Vinicius del Benfica.

Taremi, l’esordio in Champions con il Porto
Nell’estate successiva, è il 2020, si trasferisce al Porto. In coppia con Moussa Marega, chiude la sua prima annata con gli os Dragões con 23 centri in 48 uscite, brillando anche in Champions League. Contro la Juventus, nel match valido l’andata degli ottavi di finale del torneo, il 17 febbraio 2021, sigla il suo primo gol nella massima competizione europea, diventando contestualmente il primo calciatore iraniano della storia a realizzare una rete nella fase a eliminazione diretta della Champions League. Ai quarti di finali invece, contro il Chelsea, Taremi dipinge in rovesciata il miglior gol della stagione, premiato poi a fine luglio dalla UEFA.
La “bacheca europea” di Taremi
In Portogallo, con la maglia del Porto, ha vinto nell’ordine due supercoppe, un campionato – la scorsa stagione – due volte la coppa nazionale e, lo scorso gennaio, la coppa di Lega. In stagione ha chiuso da capocannoniere del campionato (per la seconda volta da quando gioca in Europa) mettendo a segno complessivamente 22 gol.
